American Federation of Teachers Massachusetts Endorses Chelsea Kline for State Senate

BOSTON – The 25,000-member AFT Massachusetts, one of the state’s largest labor unions, today announced their endorsement of Chelsea Kline for State Senate in this year’s election. AFT Massachusetts is the first statewide labor union to make an endorsement in the race for the Hampshire, Franklin & Worcester Senate seat.

“Chelsea Kline understands that our students can succeed if they are given the resources they deserve. She shares our aspirational vision for fully-funded schools and libraries, debt-free public college, and an education system that focuses on true learning, not just testing,” said AFT Massachusetts President Beth Kontos. “The teachers, librarians, higher ed faculty, and other educators of the AFT Massachusetts are proud to support Chelsea because she will be a strong advocate for our students and our schools.”

“AFT Massachusetts has been a leader in advocating for our public schools, and in protecting the rights of workers across Massachusetts,” said Chelsea Kline, a Northampton Democrat. “I’m proud to have their support, and to work with them as we fight to end high-stakes testing, focus on the whole child, empower educators, invest in our public schools, and support every child.”

The Executive Board of AFT Massachusetts, which voted on the endorsement, is made up of elected representatives of the 25,000 AFT members statewide.
