Councilor Otis Wheeler Endorses Chelsea Kline

Greenfield Town Councilor Otis Wheeler Endorses Chelsea Kline for Senate
Cites Kline’s Commitment to Franklin County, Progressive Values

GREENFIELD -- Greenfield Town Councilor Otis Wheeler has endorsed Democrat Chelsea Kline’s bid for the Hampshire, Franklin & Worcester Senate seat.

“Chelsea Kline knows Greenfield, and she knows Franklin County,” said Councilor Wheeler. “She is by far the best candidate to advocate for our towns and fight for our progressive values. Chelsea’s compassion, courage, and deep commitment are exactly the qualities needed to bring about real progress and induce meaningful change. I’m proud to support Chelsea’s candidacy, and eager to see her representing our communities in the State Senate.”

“I’m thrilled to have Councilor Wheeler’s support,” said Chelsea Kline. “I’m running for State Senate to advocate for our whole district, and to make sure each community is well-represented on Beacon Hill.”

“Greenfield in particular has a special place in my heart as a welcoming community for working families. When I was a single low-income mom, Greenfield Community College and the Greenfield community gave me the opportunity to achieve my potential. But after years of state budget cuts, tuition at GCC has gone up more than 70% since I was a student there, and those opportunities are further out of reach for far too many. That’s bad for students, bad for Greenfield, and bad for Franklin County. As Senator, I will make funding for public education -- from pre-K to higher education -- a top priority.”

Chelsea Kline is a higher education leader and social justice advocate running on progressive issues like repairing our social safety net, protecting our environment, fully-funding our schools, supporting our farms and local businesses, and Medicare for All. As a single low-income mother, she attended Greenfield Community College while working multiple jobs to put food on the table for her daughter. She credits her mentors at GCC with pushing her to transfer to Smith College, where she graduated in 2008 before earning her Master’s from Harvard University.

Councilor Wheeler will join Kline in kicking off a campaign canvass event on July 14th at 11am on the Greenfield Town Common.
