MA Solar Owners Association Endorses Chelsea Kline for Senate

MA Solar Owners Association Endorses Chelsea Kline for Senate
Kline is the only candidate endorsed by environmental advocates

NORTHAMPTON – The Massachusetts Solar Owners Association (MASOA) today announced their endorsement of Chelsea Kline for State Senate in the Hampshire, Franklin & Worcester district. MASOA is the only environmental advocacy organization to endorse in the race.

“Chelsea Kline understands that climate change requires immediate action, and that the state must act to protect our green energy economy,” said MASOA in a statement. “Massachusetts lost 3,000 solar jobs last year alone because of anti-solar policies at the state level. We need dedicated leaders like Chelsea Kline in the Senate fighting for solar energy, for our environment, and for the green economy in Massachusetts.”

“I am proud to stand with MASOA and solar energy owners in Massachusetts,” said Chelsea Kline. “Renewable energy sources like solar are vital to combating climate change, reducing electricity costs, and bringing green jobs to Western Massachusetts. As Senator, I will fight for 100% renewable energy in Massachusetts to ensure a better world for our communities and our children, and stand up to the fossil fuel industry and their anti-renewable policies.”

In 2017, the solar industry in Massachusetts lost 3,052 jobs, a decline of 21%, according to The Solar Foundation’s National Solar Jobs Census. Of those, solar manufacturing and solar installation jobs saw the greatest decline. Solar advocates have cited Massachusetts’ net metering cap, solar demand charge, and monthly minimum charge for solar customers as barriers to a sustainable solar industry.

MASOA is a membership organization of individuals and businesses who own solar installations dedicated to ensuring access to clean and renewable energy as a solution to climate change. MASOA works to educate solar owners and to advocate for access to affordable solar energy across the Commonwealth. Since 2013, MASOA has been a voice for Massachusetts residents and businesses doing their part to use green energy, expand access to renewable energy sources, and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.

Chelsea Kline is a Democratic candidate for the vacant Hampshire, Franklin & Worcester Senate seat. Chelsea began fighting for climate justice more than 20 years ago, working to protect the environment, preserve open spaces, and ensure access to green energy for everyone. Kline is the only candidate in the race who has been endorsed by an organization dedicated to environmental advocacy. She has also been endorsed by organizations like Progressive Massachusetts and Mass Alliance that advocate for environmental and climate justice as part of broader progressive agendas. The election is Tuesday, September 4th.
