SEIU Local 509 Endorses Chelsea Kline for State Senate

SEIU Local 509 Endorses Chelsea Kline for State Senate
“Chelsea is the person we need,” said union president Peter Morales.

NORTHAMPTON – SEIU Local 509, a union representing nearly 20,000 human service workers and educators, announced its endorsement of Democrat Chelsea Kline for State Senate. Local 509 members serve vulnerable people in a wide array of settings, and Kline has made supporting the same communities a central theme of her campaign.

“We’re proud to endorse Chelsea Kline for State Senate,” said Peter Morales, President of SEIU 509. “While SEIU members are on the front lines serving the Commonwealth’s most vulnerable residents, they need to know they have someone fighting for them. Chelsea is the person we need in the Senate.”

“As someone who worked hard but still had to rely on programs like MassHealth and SNAP benefits, I am inspired to be in the fight for economic justice with the frontline workers of SEIU 509,” said Chelsea Kline. “SEIU 509 members care for the elderly, for children, for people with disabilities, and for people who struggled like I did. SEIU members work long and hard caring for vulnerable people and holding our communities together, and I am proud to have their support.”

SEIU 509 provides social services to elders, at-risk children, and people with mental illnesses or developmental disabilities — as well as educational services in both public and private sector settings. From mental health clinicians and social workers to early childhood educators and university lecturers, Local 509 represents a wide array of members dedicated to raising living standards for working families while improving the quality and affordability of human services.
