Senator L'Italien Endorses Chelsea Kline

Senator L’Italien Endorses Chelsea Kline for Senate
Progressive senator says Kline’s perspective, experience will make her an effective senator

NORTHAMPTON – State Senator State Senator Barbara L’Italien, one of the most reliably progressive votes in the Senate, announced her endorsement of Chelsea Kline’s campaign for Senate, citing her professional and personal experience and perspective as valuable assets that will make her an effective member of the body.

Senator L’Italien, who is running for Congress in the 3rd District, is a top co-sponsor of Medicare for All single-payer health care legislation and the lead advocate for the disability community in the State House, credited with building brick-by-brick the nation’s best service delivery system for people with autism. She is a longstanding champion of public schools and opponent of the school privatization industry, and has used her position to organize grassroot activists in her district successfully against charter school expansion as well as a natural gas pipeline project which would have devastated the environment and increased the Commonwealth’s reliance on fossil fuels.

“I first ran for office because of my experience raising a child with autism in a system that was working against us,” said Senator L’Italien. “When I brought that experience to the Legislature, we were able to completely reshape the way Massachusetts serves people with autism, and we became a national model. Chelsea’s own lived experience as a mom on a mission to create a better life for her kids and families like hers mirrors my story and the stories of countless families across our Commonwealth. We are seeing a new wave of women stepping up for public service, running authentically and boldly as women and mothers. When I leave the state Legislature, I know that leaders like Chelsea will pick up the ball and keep moving us forward.”

“I’m deeply honored to have the support of Senator L’Italien, who has done so much to advance the progressive movement in the Legislature,” said Chelsea Kline. “If elected, I’m looking forward to continuing Senator L’Italien’s legacy of fighting for the issues that matter most to our communities.”

Chelsea Kline is a Democratic candidate for the vacant Hampshire, Franklin & Worcester Senate seat, and the only candidate on the ballot. When she became a single mother at 19, Kline worked three jobs but still needed programs like MassHealth and food stamps to take care of her daughter. Now, as a successful higher education leader and an activist of more than 20 years, Kline is running for Senate to repair our fraying social safety net, protect our environment, invest in our schools, and fight for a single-payer healthcare system that priorities people over corporate profits.
